Collection Manager - Parasitology at the South Australian Museum
The Collection Manager, Parasitology, is accountable to the Head of Collections, South Australian Museum for the collection, preparation, identification, incorporation, loan, scientific study and interpretation of items in the South Australian Museum’s Helminths Collection and for facilitating public and research access to the collections.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensuring that the day-to-day activities of the Helminths Collection are properly managed and reported.
- Working with the Curatorial/Research collective and with other Collection Management staff in the Department to achieve the proper care and storage of items in the Biological Sciences Collections.
- Assisting with management of sectional budgets and laboratory equipment where appropriate.
- Ensuring that collection specimens are stored in a manner which promotes their long-term well being.
- Refining and maintaining a retrieval system for collection items, both for specimens and their related information.
- Ensuring specimens in the Biological Sciences Collections are documented as far as practicable through maintaining and refining both paper based and digital systems.
Ensuring the specimen register and loans records of the Collections are up-to-date and accurate.
- Ensuring requested loans are selected, sent and returned and that loan forms are prepared for approval.
- Undertaking collections based research where appropriate.
- Contributing to the promotion and interpretation of the Biological Sciences Collections to all stakeholders, including conducting occasional tours of collection areas, arranging and coordinating collections access, contributing to exhibitions development and participating in professional organisations and activities.
- Assisting with the accurate identification of specimens as far as practicable.
- Assisting with collections augmentation through field work, sometimes in remote areas, and collection exchanges/acquisitions.
- Providing collections management assistance in other collection areas when required.
This position is part-time 3 days/week
