Events and Outreach
The Network's commitment to communication
The ARC Network for Parasitology is committed to promoting communication about parasitology and broader issues such as genome mapping, biosecurity and bioinformatics to the general community.
This commitment will include:
- Publication on the website of information targeted at schools and teachers
- Publication on the website of material for the media as well as posting of stories that appear in the news on related issues
- Holding of lectures and seminars targeted at the general public
- Holding of urgent seminars for the media and general public in the event of, for instance, a biosecurity breach. The aim of this seminar would be to ensure that correct, rather than alarming, information is disseminated
- Provision of experts who can brief the media when necessary
- Publication on the website of updates for the farming, rural, veterinary and wildlife/conservation communities.

Other Initiatives
A web-based newsletter will be developed to be circulated by email and as a hardcopy to end-users and interest groups.
Working with schools. The Network aims to work closely with key organizations such as the Australian Society for Parasitology, Biotechnology Australia and AusBiotech in the development of school projects, education materials and displays to highlight the Network's and Australia's achievements in parasitology.
The Network will also prepare and circulate information on career options and opportunities for high school and undergraduate students.
Working with the media. The Network will produce information sheets for the media on parasitology and will develop a list of highly respected contacts that can be used by the media to answer immediate questions relating to parasitology - ensuring that correct information is transmitted to Australians via the media.
Working with interest groups. The Network will organize seminars for investment and shareholder clubs, stockbrokers and financial institutions to showcase parasitological research with an emphasis on its commercialization potentials.
Through links established via its Advisory Board, the Network will also conduct workshops and lectures for end-users (eg farmers-groups and professionals like veterinarians, water boards, clinicians and public health officials, and communities around Australia) and furnish regular reports, fact sheets and publications in professional journals.
