Title Postdoctoral Research Associate in Parasite Immunology
Salary Base Salary Range: $92,296 (Level A)
Location University of Technology Sydney
Job Information

The School of Biomedical Engineering at UTS is looking to recruit a Research Associate to work directly on an ARC funded project “Deciphering the molecular mechanisms of parasite-host interactions”. This project will uncover how helminths hijack the mammalian miRNA machinery to regulate host gene expression and thus support long-term infection. The outcomes will highlight novel avenues for the control of these persistent worm infections. The position is primarily suited to a postdoctoral researcher with experience in an area relating to infection and immunity. The postdoctoral fellow will be appointed to a full-time position for 2 years.

Reporting to A/Prof Nham Tran and A/Prof Sheila Donnelly day to day you will:

  • Analyse the impact of parasite-derived miRNAs on the biological activity of macrophages in vitro and on vivo.
  • Perform miRNA transfections and CRISPR knockout of primary cells and cell lines.
  • Adapt and develop experimental work in accordance with the needs of the project.
  • Write progress reports and present these findings
  • Engage in supervising undergraduate and graduate students, publishing results, and seeking funding.

This is an exciting opportunity for the candidate to develop their own ideas in the miRNA regulation of immune responses.

  • Experience in molecular biology with a focus on RNA methodologies and techniques
  • Experience in manuscript writing and other academic outputs
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience supervising students.
