Blastocystis hominis - Avacuolar form - TEM in colonoscopy sample. Note- this organism is the form seen in vivo in humans and is without a central vacuole (unlike those in cultured cells or those in faeces passed from the gut). This cell is round to ovoid, approx 5 microns diameter with a plasma membrane but no surface coat, it has small vacuoles and vesicles in the cytoplasm, nucleus has the typical crescentic condensed band of chromatin.
