Dear ASP members,
We are writing to brief you on an exciting new development for our Society and the field of parasitology.
During the ASP’s strategic planning process, we determined there may be an opportunity for the ASP to sponsor a new Journal focussing on antiparasitic drugs and the mechanisms of drug resistance. Such a Journal does not exist in the literature and we felt that the new Journal would provide an excellent forum for disseminating new knowledge in the area of drug development as well as fostering research aimed at defining drug resistance mechanisms and debate on matters of current controversy in this area.  The Journal would publish original research aimed at unicellular or multicellular parasites of human or veterinary importance. In keeping with current publishing trends, our concept was that the Journal would be an open access Journal.
Accordingly, we raised our ideas with Elsevier who performed a market analysis and agreed that there was a business opportunity which fitted well with their portfolio of Journals. Following considerable discussion within Council and with Elsevier, we are delighted to announce that Elsevier and the ASP have agreed to launch the new Journal which is entitled  International Journal for Parasitology- Drugs and Drug Resistance. The new Journal is thus clearly identified as being a partner Journal to the IJP. The Aims and Scope of the new Journal, which will be launched shortly, are outlined below.
After consulting with many colleagues and Elsevier, we are delighted to announce that we have appointed two founding Editors in Chief: Kevin Saliba (ANU) and Andrew Kotze (CSIRO) who will be responsible for the editing of submissions in the area of unicellular and multicellular parasites, respectively.
The full Specialist Editorial Board will be finalised shortly. The current list of founding Board members for the Journal is posted below.
We wish to encourage ASP members to submit appropriate papers to the Journal. Please send your pre-submission inquiries to the communal Elsevier e-mail address once the Journal is launched.
Council is delighted to have fostered the founding of this new Journal which we anticipate will provide a stellar forum for the dissemination of original discoveries in this critical area of parasitology research. On behalf of all members, we express our sincere thanks to Kevin Saliba and Andrew Kotze for agreeing to serve the ASP in this important step and provide the leadership necessary to ensure the success of the International Journal for Parasitology- Drugs and Drug Resistance.
Sincerely
