On 17–18 October 2026 in Melbourne, the Australian Oral-Systemic Infection & One Health Clinical Summit will bring together clinicians, researchers and educators across dentistry, microbiology, parasitology, pathology, public health and integrative healthcare.
Most parasitologists have, at some point, looked at a sample under the scope and wondered what a working clinician would make of it. Most clinicians, in turn, rarely get to look at a sample the way a parasitologist does. The two sides of that conversation don’t often meet in the same room, and the mouth is one of the places where that gap shows up most clearly. This Summit is an attempt to close it: a two-day, hands-on forum bringing dentistry, pathology, microbiology, parasitology, public health and integrative medicine together in Melbourne, this year proudly sponsored by the Australian Society for Parasitology (ASP), with ASP’s Victorian Representative joining us as special guest speaker. For parasitologists and microbiologists, the mouth is rarely the site under the scope. Chronic oral infection, root-treated teeth, dental materials and the organisms that inhabit them sit largely outside conventional parasitology and microbiology training and just as far outside a routine dental examination. Australia currently has limited dedicated dental pathology infrastructure, and published Australian prevalence data on oral protozoa remain scarce. This Summit creates a dedicated forum where scientists can see the clinical picture directly, meet the practitioners collecting samples in real time, and start building the research and referral pathways that don’t yet exist.
The focus of the Australian Oral-Systemic Infection & One Health Clinical Summitis clinical translation:
- 🔬 How emerging and established evidence around oral infection and inflammation, dental materials, microscopy, parasitology, blood chemistry and complex patient presentations can inform better investigation, referral and interdisciplinary practice.
- Australian and international speakers, for two days of clinical cases, microscopy, discussion and practical education.
- For academics, researchers and health professionals, this is also an opportunity to examine where the evidence is developing, where important knowledge gaps remain, and how we can strengthen collaboration between research and frontline clinical care.
